From the Couch - Anaheim 2

Back to Angel stadium for the 3 rd race of the season and the first Triple Crown event. Love them or hate them, Triple Crowns always mix things up. Here’s how it went down.

Qualifying – in the 250 class the biggest news was Cameron McAdoo’s crash in the whoops, the medical crew assisted a limping and hunched over McAdoo off the track. This, on top of Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s horror run of injuries, was hard to watch. Timing-wise, Jett Lawrence was fastest over RJ Hampshire by almost a second, Jett’s time would have put him 2nd in the

450 class. Chase Sexton topped the premier class from Jason Anderson.

LCQ’s- Josh Varise won the 250 class and Kevin Moranz the big bikes, Shane Macelrath just snuck in, continuing his early season struggles.

250 Race 1 – RJ with a great race going holeshot to checkers from TLD Gas Gas rider Pierce Brown 2nd and Jett in 3rd after a crashing mid-race, Brown did a great job holding Jett off late in the race. Hats off to McAdoo who lined up and finished 8th.

450 Race 1 – Sexton with the holeshot and gone, never troubled on his white Honda, the race team running a different look this weekend matching their kid's bike range. Kickstart Kenny with a solid 2 nd place, this week looking much more like the Ken we’re used to, obviously getting comfortable with the yellow bike. Eli worked his way up to 3 rd from a 5th place start, not tearing through the pack as I expected. He is human.

250 Race 2 – Fan favorite Phil Nicoletti with the holeshot and leading most of the race until he was worn down by the eventual winner Star Yamaha’s Stilez Robertson and Levi Kitchen who finished 2nd with Phil rounding out the podium. Jett is finishing 6th coming from dead last after another crash, triple crowns seem to be his Achilles heel. Also tasting dirt in race 2 were McAdoo, Brown, Varise, Maximus Vohland, and RJ who DNF’d, a stark contrast to his race 1 win.

450 Race 2 – Jason Anderson with the holeshot and the win, Eli 2nd, and Ken 3rd. Ken and Eli’s battle being the highlight. Sexton went down early and fought back to 5th.

Supercross Futures – From the couch, I really liked having this event slotted into prime time, the negative though for the young riders was a well-beaten-up track. Husqvarna rider Talon Hawkins got the holeshot and lead early with his teammate Casey Cochran in tow, these two swapped the lead a couple of times before Star Yamaha rider Daxton Bennick moved to the front, taking the win from Cochran and Hawkins. Young Kiwi Cole Davies with a 4th place, if he keeps up the good results, we better claim him as an Aussie. Other notable riders were fast qualifier Julien Beaumer who DNF’d with a handlebar issue after a huge case and

Haiden Deegan had an average start and crashed, coming back to 5th.

250 Race 3 – Order was restored and the Jett show arrived, holeshot and gone, giving him 3-6-1 results for 2nd overall, a pretty good result given the night's troubles. Kitchen’s 2nd gave him 4-2-2 for the overall win, his first-ever. I always think it must feel a little hollow when you get a round win without a race win, but I’m sure he’s stoked about it. Robertson 3 rd in the race and overall, with 6-1-3 scores. Well done to a bruised and battered McAdoo going 8-7-5 for 6th overall, taking him to 2nd in points, one ahead of RJ and 16 behind Jett.

450 Race 3 – After the results in the first 2 races, the overall was wide open with Eli, Ken, Anderson, and Sexton in a winner takes all situation. “El Hombre” got the holeshot followed by Sexton, Webb, and Eli. Eli’s chances were ended with an uncharacteristic rhythm lane crash, seemingly frustrated trying to pass Webb, Eli lucky to avoid injury, landing on a tough block. After a couple of bites, Sexton passed Anderson for the lead and gapped him, going on to win the race and the night 1-5-1. A mistake from Anderson saw Webb go by for 2nd,

Anderson finished 3 rd and 2nd overall with 5-1-3 scores. Kenny 3 rd on the night with 2-3-4 scores. Eli rode his very bent Yamaha home in 13th, 6th on the night, and still holding the red plate, 4 points clear of Sexton and Webb. Pretty good damage control.

Bring on Houston and our first look at the 250 East.
