Gillman – One dry gate

Not sure how many of you are old enough to remember the kid's show “The Red and the Blue” But you all know about the red and the blue battle this Auspromx season. Appin was Blue, Wodonga was red, Maitland was blue and you guessed it, Gilman was red.

The story of the day for me was the importance of qualifying, I can’t remember an

an event where it mattered so much, every single holeshot and all bar one win came from the same gate, that far inside gate being so much drier than the rest, coupled with conditions that didn’t promote passing it was a huge advantage.

MXW – What can you say about Charli Cannon that hasn’t been said already, a

dominant performance going 1-1 from Honda pair Emma Milesevic 2-2 and Tahlia

O’Hare 3-3. Milesevic is now 2nd in points after Gas Gas Australia’s new recruit Taylor Thompson, wore a wicked hi-side in race 1 and missed race 2.

MX3 – Gas Gas Australia’s Byron Dennis took the top step on the day only to lose the overall after a protest on Empire Kawasaki’s Campbell Williams boosted Yamaha Junior Racings Jake Cannon from 3-1 to 2-1 scores, which then bested Dennis’s 1-2 score. Hope that makes sense! Dennis with a holeshot from the golden gate and a dominant win in race 1. Race 2 and Dennis with the start again but with Jake Cannon in tow, never far behind and passing for the lead late in the race. Cannons teammate Kayd Kingsford 3 rd overall.

MX2 – Guess who’s back? If you answered a fit and firing Wilson Todd, you’d be

right. The Honda Racing Australia rider looked to have his 2022 form back after

starting this season pretty beaten up. Wilbur took both wins ahead of arch-rival,

KTM Australia’s Nathan Crawford 2-2 and Gas Gas Australia’s Noah Ferguson 3-4.

An ominous sign for the competition to see Todd, already with a massive points lead and only getting stronger. He’s gotta keep winning to pay for that new house!

MX1 – Well well well, Webby’s gate was dry and Trent’s pants were wet! Just like in

MX2, that inside gate had a red machine parked on it, Kyle Webster getting 2

holeshots and 2 wins. The first being by a comfortable margin, an “easy win” if there is such a thing. Race 2 though was a story of fighting to the end and making your own luck. The rain finally came and Webster with Goggles off dropped back to 3rd, fought his way back to 2nd then capitalised on a mistake by leader Luke Clout to take the win. CDR Yamaha’s Aaron Tanti was 2nd with 2-2 scores and Jed Beaton 3rd on the day with 4-4 scores. That was enough for Jed to put the red plate back on his Honda Racing Australia machine, just.

Jed now 1 point clear of Dean Ferris, the 111 didn’t have the best of days, seemingly

struggling with the bike and only managing 7-9 scores. Reigning champion, Tanti 3 rd in points a further 8 points down.

Go Riding.
