Super Motocross is done. I've heard everything from "I don't really care" to "this is the best thing ever" Some people loved Charlotte, some preferred Chicago, most loved the Coliseum.
Me, for a first effort I'd give it a tick I'm always keen for more racing and I loved that a lot of guys made good money out of it, not talking about Jett's next Ferrari, but a guy like Masterpool, riding with a crook appendix probably paid for his next season out of his winnings, that's a good thing.
Here's my take on each event.
Charlotte was my least favorite, and by a long way, I felt the track was missing the hardest elements of both disciplines and was too easy. I wrote down "Lucky Dip" in my notes as I feel luck played a huge part in results, guys who happened to have a bike working well did well and those that didn't, well they struggled. Some credit to suspension techs I guess but they had so little time, some got lucky.
The daytime races never look right either.
Chicago was much better, very much Motocross and the lucky dip aspect was largely diminished, the visual aspect of the place was awesome as was the high speeds, in a word it was "Fun" which is kinda also how i feel about the whole series. It's not Playoffs, its not the pinnacle of the year, but its fun. While I'm placing single words on thing's "Dumb" is the word for the Kenny wave by incident and the explanations that followed. But its all good, Jett is 3 times the young man I was at his age. Young blokes say dumb shit at times.
We were really robbed of a great battle, and Kenny was robbed of a chance a great win.
The Coliseum, this was really really cool, like really.
The first ever Supercross VHS tape I bought was Ricky Johnson - Profile of a Champion, and the highlight of that tape was LA 1987 where he came from a first turn crash and near last to a win in dramatic fashion, with the great Larry Huffman along with David Stanfield calling the action. I must have watched that 500 times and I've loved Supercross ever since.
So needless to say, they could have held a 110 race there and i would still love it, just on the history alone.
Kenny's challenge to Jett meant i didn't have to love this event just because of the history, I was so pumped to see it and also pumped about what it may mean for next year. The 94 looks very healthy, happy and hungry and that's always a good thing.
Disappointed for Hunter not racing and disappointed for Jo, I've grown to be a big fan of "Sushi".
It was however cool to see Deegan win, a lot of history there too.
Sad to hear that this wont be back as a regular venue, they sure didn't spare the bells and whistles though, Past riders, bike intros, celebrities and the biggest cast of commentators since the 1984 Olympics.
Now its the off season! MXON, Aussie Supy, WSX, Paris all to happen in the 14 weeks until A1. Off season my ass!
But we wouldn't want it any other way.
