Overshadowed

Denver, what the hell happened, how do I move on from this? I’m devastated. Where’s the 3-way battle to the final race, Coop smelling blood, Beast mode Eli? This was supposed to be a season for the ages.

I ride a wave of emotion for this sport and Saturday's ride sucked.

By now Eli’s misfortune has been well and truly chewed over so rather than dwelling on that, here’s a look at some positives from the night. And despite me throwing the toys from the cot, there actually are a few!

250s - RJ Hampshire won his first race of the year, but sadly for him that was overshadowed by Jett Lawrence ticking off another title, the story of the night, or so we thought at the time.

Who would have thought Jett’s championship would be on the back page? Really glad for RJ he deserved to get one, he’s clearly the best 250 rider that’s not from Landsborough.

Jett with title number 4, and hasn’t it gone quick, Young Jett trying to hold off a charging Dylan Ferrandis doesn’t seem long ago. Such a different vibe to Hunters Championship, Jett was seemingly just relieved and ready to move on to bigger bikes and bigger things.

Enzo Lopes was pumped to win his heat race and was o so close to a podium again, love this guy. Enzo talking about Phil always yelling at him is one of my favourite things.

One more to go and it's an East-West showdown, please give us the Lawrence battle we’ve been hoping for. Like seriously, I want a show, post-race biffo and all, Dazzy and Mirts trying to separate them!

450s – The positive here is of course Chase Sexton, a dominant win on the night. And a season of never giving up, fighting through adversity, crash after crash after crash, figuring it out and now heading for a certain Championship, but I’m not ready for that yet!

My main positive from the night was my guy Adam Cianciarulo making his first podium in a couple of years. The emotion and honesty he showed were fantastic. Ken Roczen with a great ride also coming from last to 2nd.

Justin Hill with a 4th, continuing his great season, like AC and Kenny, Justin seems to be in a good place, gelling well with Team Tedder and having his big bro as a teammate. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him look so fit, it’s great to see and I hope he keeps it up.

In the end, well done to Chase, heal up Eli, and go AC.

I’m ready for the outdoors
