Detroit supercross hey, I have heaps of notes and a lot happened, but I’ll start with Aaron Plessinger. That just ain’t fair, I can only remember being that gutted for a rider once before. I’m an Adam Ciancirulo fan so you know when that was.
It wasn’t a good day, the live pass app stopped at least 200 times and logged me out 3 times, not what you want when you got up at 4:30 on Sunday morning to watch the sport your life revolves around. By the time of AP’s devastation, I was peaking out! So, then I was angry and sad all at once, and just hollow, I couldn’t enjoy the win for Chase Sexton and didn’t really care about the pending penalty or the Star Yamaha rumble.
So, I switched over to watch the Aus Pro MX life feed from Appin, and of course it glitched, sending my mostly mild-mannered self into rage. But I know what to do when emotions take hold, I switched everything off, went to the shed, chucked on my Shot gear (Available at Link International) fired up my beloved KX and went riding.
Enough about me, here’s some thoughts on Detroit.
250’s – Haiden Deegan and Jordan Smith’s incident was just dumb. That said Haiden is way smarter than I was at 17, he’s a kid people, and a good one from what I’ve seen. I hope he received the right coaching after the fact. Haiden didn’t cause Smith to crash repeatedly post incident and miss the main event. Smith’s emotions did that. All this however gave a bit of excitement in an otherwise dull 250 class, Hunter just too good, winning again.
Nate Thrasher finishing 2 nd . Nate is really good this year, he’ll be a title contender next year if he avoids Hunter’s coast. At least one Lawrence brother will be gone from the class.
Another classic JMart and Deegan battle in the main event, Haiden getting the best of it again and finishing 3rd. “Golly gee that kids got me again.”
Good stuff from the Phoenix Honda team riders Cullen Park and Coty Schock finishing 7th and 8th.
450’s – What happened to the big 3 just dominating the rest of the season? It wouldn’t surprise anyone to see another different winner in Seattle, hopefully it’s AP, but Justin Barcia and Jason Anderson have shown the speed lately.
Love seeing AC looking just a little bit better each race.
Chase’s penalty for jumping in a red cross flag section seems a little harsh to me, but I guess the new rule will be consistent. It is what it is, but it’s a real kick in guts for his title hopes, now 17 points down. At least he still kept the win.
I get the feeling that Cooper Webb thought he was going to get the win? Seemed extra salty and mentioned it a few times. But he extended his championship lead out to 3 points over
Eli Tomac who rounded out the podium.
I hate when movies have a sad ending. The hero should always win, it really annoys me. But it does set the stage for a ripper sequel, redemption and victory.
Go get em AP.
